Markzware PDF2DTP Adobe InDesign CS6 Plugin Released

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Convert PDF to Adobe InDesign with a click, using Markzware PDF2DTP for InDesign CS6 plugin!

August 15, 2012 — SANTA ANA, California – Markzware, a leading software developer and provider of data conversion, preflight and packaging technology for Adobe® InDesign®, QuarkXPress and Microsoft Publisher announces a brand new data conversion software, PDF2DTP for Adobe InDesign.

PDF2DTP for InDesign CS6 provides an easy and affordable method to migrate content from a PDF into an editable format within Adobe InDesign. PDF2DTP will provide a detailed conversion, bringing PDF elements into a familiar layout and graphic design environment for creative professionals, so that changes can be made as needed. This CS6 plugin will be particularly beneficial to users of InDesign in the Adobe Creative Suite. PDF2DTP will recover embedded images and save them in a job folder, as well as place the text, frames, images and colors back into the InDesign document. It will convert a PDF to InDesign, whether the original PDF was created in QuarkXPress, Microsoft Word or an Internet web page.

Dan Figlo, principal, Moblpress said, “In our design business, we are sometimes asked to work from PDFs when clients don’t have access to the original design files. Our current workflow involves reconstructing the pages from scratch and using the PDFs for little more than a reference. To speed up this clumsy process, we have tested numerous dedicated applications and InDesign plugins. Some of the apps we tested chugged along so slowly that we wondered if they had hung, and when they did finish, there were often inaccuracies in the content or layout to clean up. Two even crashed InDesign CS6. None came close to the processing speed or produced cleaner or more accurate InDesign files than Markzware’s PDF2DTP – even though it was still in Beta when we tested it. The choice was a no-brainer for us.”

While PDFs are nice for viewing, it is difficult to actually edit PDF in order to make changes for business productivity purposes. The new Markzware PDF2DTP for InDesign CS6 plugin makes it simple to edit PDF content within a new InDesign document.

Independent design professional, Glen Saville said, “PDF2DTP has saved me a day or two simply processing the images. I was able to start working on the text in a new design in InDesign, and copy and paste the images from the converted file. Brilliant! This not only saved me time, but saved the editor retyping the whole thing! What got me was somehow it preserved where the original designer had put little bits of text into separate text boxes on tricky test run-arounds, so I was able to keep the text making sense! Another brilliant, useful tool from Markzware!”

Timus Rees, professional in graphic and technical illustration, said of this InDesign CS6 plugin, “I was amazed and very pleased that each document opened and converted quickly. Wow! This is a very powerful program! It is the type of ‘save the day’ program that we (the spoiled customers of Markzware) have come to expect.”

Brad Squires, creative director, Bold Type Design said, “I have been using the PDF2DTP plugin and I love it! Previously, I had used another product, but it did very strange things with all the text boxes – breaking text blocks into seemingly arbitrary parts and adding dozens of paragraph and character styles. I noticed that Markzware’s PDF2DTP for Adobe InDesign product handles all this very elegantly, leaving no need for all the cleanup.”

  1. I am interested in converting pdf files into Quark and InDesign. Is there a single product to convert both? Or a package price? Do you have a trial package available?

  2. My, what an arrogant company! Charging a fee for each version of InDesign. Do you think you are God?

  3. Oh no, not at all “Two Cents” – (Like your username in this case!)

Due to the nature of Adobe Creative Suite, the massive amount of development we have to invest in it and the numerous changes from Adobe, Quark, Apple and Microsoft, places a small company like Markzware in a precarious situation.

We appreciate that you are concerned about the additional cost per CS version, but may I suggest that the time you saved using this product saved you a lot more money than $/€100. We need revenue to keep developing the products. If we don’t get sufficient revenue, then neither you, nor others, would have it.

You will notice though, that older CS5.5 or CS5 specific versions cost only 149. So that plays into this picture as well. You see, supporting all of the older CS versions can also be costly, but we want to keep serving the broad range of customers. Thus, you can purchase PDF2DTP, even if you are on an older CS, for less money than the latest CS6 version. Then, you can buy a new PDF2DTP version when you Upgrade to the latest Adobe CS version.

I hope you understand and please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

    Friendly Regards,
    David Dilling

  4. Good questions Dennis,

Thank you for your well-founded interest in PDF to InDesign and PDF to QuarkXPress conversion. As you can imagine, these are two separate products. PDF2DTP for InDesign (Open PDFs in InDesign) is a CS6, CS5.5 or CS5 plugin and PDF2DTP for QuarkXPress (open PDFs in QuarkXPress) is a QuarkXPress 9 XTension. They respectively both cost $199 or equivalent in a local currency. See:

If you want to purchase both, email sales AT markzware DOT com and we may be able to work up a discount code for folks that want both PDF2DTP for InDesign and PDF2DTP for QuarkXPress.

    Friendly Regards,
    David Dilling

  5. I’m looking for a tool to convert PDF to InDesign (CS5) and was wondering if you have a trial version for me to test the quality. I will need to run tests prior to getting approval for the company to purchase. Please advise. Thank you!

    * Convert a PDF to InDesign with a click
    * Fix corrupt InDesign files if all you have is the PDF left (Can fix some PDFs too)
    * Open PDFs if you lost the source layout or document file
    * Convert PDFs found on the Internet for internal use
    * Extract images from PDF files and save in a job folder

Really pleased to have this product [PDF2DTP for InDesign]. The Beta version was really good and saved me loads of hassle with amends to pdfs.
    Graham Bell – http://www.absolutegraphics.co.uk

    Graham further added;

    it’s a great product. I have to re-artwork a fair
few pdfs from Europe where they have been originated in Publisher or Corel
but supply me with high res pdfs, and I use Indesign so this product solves
the problem of amends and changes – love it.

Glen Saville, a book designer in the UK had this to say about it:

    PDF2DTP really will be a game-changer.
