Bad InDesign or corrupt InDesign documents are becoming more and more a fact of life (thankfully, far less than QuarkXPress had in earlier days, but still enough to be a headache, especially when you do not have a back-up and a month’s worth of work relies on how to recover InDesign from font problems.

Whether InDesign crashes on open or gives you a worrisome InDesign error message (like the “InDesign.exe has encountered a problem” message below), the effect is the same – HELP ME!

We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.”

Markzware, is well known for its MarkzTools Quark XTension and for its InDesign conversion tools, such as the ever-popular Q2ID Quark to InDesign plugin. Markzware has a way to fix bad InDesign or to open InDesign, when you have a problem with an InDesign file. The Markzware File Recovery Service is $99 (no cure-no pay), where we can attempt to fix InDesign CS documents, should you have a flaky file.

. Even if you don’t want to pay, we would like to see your strange InDesign files for our R&D, whether it contains an InDesign problem with fonts or other issues.

The way we recover InDesign documents from an Adobe InDesign crash is quite amazing, and has a very high percentage of success (using QuarkXPress and ID2Q during the process). Check it out in this video on how to convert InDesign:

  1. Hi-
I have an INDD CS5.5 file that won’t open, and am curious if you can recover it. I was doing a search and replace and accidentally performed it on the whole document instead of the selection I was working on, and I tried to cancel it (by clicking “Cancel”)…well, it froze up, and I had to force quit after 10 minutes of waiting. Now the doc won’t open. Here’s the link:

    Thanks for any help!

  2. Hi Scott, that is too bad, however we can likely assist.

Here is a little more info on how we will do this:
    http://markzware.com/support/faq/recover-bad-file-service/

The Markzware File Recovery Service now requires first, a non-refundable one-time In-Take fee of $19.00. Please pay that fee first-off here:
    https://secure.avangate.com/order/product.php?PRODS=4547320&QTY=1

Once paid, you will instantly get a link to our Bad File Submission Form. Please fill in as best as possible and submit your COMPRESSED bad InDesign file with NO fonts or images. (Need only the bad file itself)
    - or alternatively, get me a link to where we can download your problematic file.

We will then inform you of our progress, which is generally within hours. There is a further, small fee, if we are able to fix the document (no cure, no further pay), based on the size of your bad file. These fees, which you only pay after reviewing a FIXED file, look like this:

    $/€ 99 (0-100 MB)
    $/€ 129 (101-200 MB)
    $/€ 149 (201-500 MB)
    $/€ 199 (500 MB – 1 GB)

If larger than 1GB, please inquire for further details…
Just let me know with an email on david AT markzware DOT com. Thank you, David of Markzware
