Here is an article about Preflighting and in particular Markzware’s FlightCheck Professional and Enfocus’ PitStop Professional from PrintMedia Management in the U.K.

It starts off with this:

Issues like missing fonts, low-res images, unlinked graphics and inadequate bleeds all keep cropping up in surveys of common file issues.”

This is a nice piece which has quotes from both Markzware and Enfocus with their views on preflighting and generally the importance of it throughout the workflow.
