Why I Googled “Convert InDesign To Quark”

Convert InDesign to Quark – Markzware ID2Q QuarkXPress XTension can convert Adobe InDesign Creative Suite CS5 CS4 CS3 to QuarkXPress, as this graphic designer discovered:

Hollis Barnhart, a freelance graphic and layout designer was working on a project for the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, a Roman Catholic organization based at Graymoor in Garrison, New York, when, lo and behold, Hollis discovered that she needed a solution to convert this project from InDesign to Quark.

Hollis, who is an expert with using the desktop publishing application QuarkXPress, had only just started using Adobe InDesign for a short period of time, and wasn’t quite yet comfortable with InDesign, because most of her projects have been created using QuarkXPress. While working on updating this journal for the Friars’ gala fundraiser, which is held each year at the Plaza in New York City, the formatting doesn’t change all that much, except, of course, for the text and photos. The template given was created in Adobe InDesign, so that is what Hollis had to work with, rather than the normal QuarkXPress that she is used to.

Hollis explained, “Because I got InDesign about a month before, I thought it would be a cinch to use. After all, it couldn’t be that much different from Quark, which I know like the back of my hand.” Hollis continues to explain, “I had about a week to turn the project around, and I thought I could easily get it done over the Labor Day weekend. However, I couldn’t work with InDesign. It continually stalled my PC, and I just couldn’t figure out the formatting. I didn’t know how I was gong to make the deadline if I didn’t use Quark. I was desperate. I didn’t have time to recreate the document. Without knowing if such a product existed, I googled “convert indesign to quark” and found Markzware.”

Hollis described her experience with installing and using the ID2Q conversion tool (to import InDesign and convert Adobe InDesign to Quark) as “I was absolutely amazed at how well the document converted. Almost all of the formatting came through. I had to make some adjustments, but they were easy. Needless to say, I made my deadline. It is indispensable. Right now, with my projects and my busy schedule, I do not need to rush in and figure out the idiosyncrasies of InDesign… Quark is a great program and will do anything that I ask it to.”

Markzware asked Hollis if the conversion was reliable and easy to do, Hollis said, “If my client gives me an InDesign document, and says ‘make this,’ I can do it in a jiffy with Quark. The client doesn’t care what program I use, as long as it gets to the printer on time.

As far as whether Hollis would recommend ID2Q for creative professionals that need to convert QuarkXPress documents into Adobe InDesign, Hollis expressed, “It was a wonderful investment, and it saved me and my client a lot of work. Indeed, I would tell other Quark professionals not to be intimidated by Adobe and InDesign. If you’ve got an InDesign template, and you’re not familiar with the program, get the Markzware plugin, do it in Quark, and send it to the printer.”
