ID Util is a FREE standalone macOS application that allows you to view InDesign previews, styled story content, linked images, and used fonts. You can also export the previews and styled stories to standard formats. Or collect and package the InDesign file along with its resources including linked images, used fonts, as well as both an HTML and XML package report. Use ID Util to ensure that files are opened in the proper version of InDesign. This can save you from accidentally converting a customers CS6 document into a CC 2015 document.
Many people receive or have access to InDesign files but cannot view those files because they do not have InDesign itself. ID Util overcomes this obstacle by allowing users to view the page previews along with the documents stories and images without the need of having InDesign.
View Page Previews
Previews supported for InDesign, IDML, and InCopy files (CS2 through CC 2015). By default Adobe InDesign will save the first two page previews at medium resolution. You can modify your InDesign preferences to save all page previews at high resolution for better preview support.
Preview Adobe InDesign, IDML, and InCopy files without the need of having Adobe software installed on your system. Export those previews as PNG, JPG or PDF files. Share the exported previews with customers or colleagues who may not have InDesign.
Zoom in to view the page at more detail or zoom out to view thumbnail views of a multiple page document. View the page print size as well as the file version (e.g. InDesign CC 2015).
View and Export Styled Stories
Get access to the story content of any InDesign file (CS2 through CC 2015). Export the styled stories as RTF, TXT, or HTML or select and copy right from the preview window. This comes in handy when you may no longer have InDesign installed on your system or if you receive InDesign files from others but do not have access to InDesign yourself.
Often people need to access the text content of an InDesign file but are not concerned with the layout. Maybe you need to repurpose the document for another source or simply need to copy out the text. ID Util allows you to both view the styled stories as well as export the content to a number of standard formats including HTML, RTF, and TXT. No longer is your document content locked away never to be seen again.
* Viewing and exporting of stories is limited to the first 500 characters for the free version. To completely unlock this feature an In-App Purchase is required.
View and Package Images and Fonts
Quickly view a list of linked images and fonts and see their status. Collect and Package the images, fonts, and InDesign file into a ZIP archive. The package will contain the linked images, used fonts, original InDesign file, along with a collection report detailing what was collected.
The package report comes in both an HTML and XML format. The HTML report is a simple to view report which displays the linked images which were collected as well as previews of the collected fonts. The XML report is designed to be flexible and integrate into an automated workflow which you may already have setup.
** Packaging is limited to the first three linked images and used fonts for the free version. To completely unlock this feature an In-App Purchase is required.
Open In InDesign
If you have multiple versions of InDesign installed on your system or simply want to ensure that you do not upsave documents by accident you can use ID Util’s Open in InDesign functionality to ensure that your files are opened by the proper version of InDesign. In the case that you do not have the same version of InDesign installed as the document version then ID Util will warn you before allowing you to Cancel or Continue with the open operation.
