Convert QuarkXPress v9 To Adobe InDesign with New Q2ID v5.5
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Convert Quark with the Upgrade of Q2ID Adobe Plugin
File Conversion for Quark 9 and InDesign CS5.5
August 23, 2011 — Markzware, the leading developer of file conversion technology for Adobe InDesign, today announced an upgrade to its popular Adobe Plugin, Q2ID (Quark to InDesign). This latest version of the Adobe plugin runs under InDesign CS5.5 to convert Quark up through QuarkXPress v9 files. Q2ID is also available with Quark 9 support for InDesign CS4 and InDesign CS5.5 and is available on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms.
Markzware Q2ID InDesign plugin converts Quark documents and instantly re-creates them to an InDesign CS4, CS5 and now CS5.5. It is often a daunting task to manually convert Quark files. Today, Q2ID v5.5 provides a quick, easy and affordable method to convert content from Quark to InDesign. This Quark conversion is as easy as opening up any Quark document into a new InDesign document. Q2ID is very accurate, providing special attention to the intricate details of the Quark content when converting Quark to InDesign.
Shelley White of Running With Scissors Graphic Design explains how she benefited from this Adobe plugin for Quark to InDesign, “I have been working in Adobe InDesign for a couple of years, so when faced with revising two catalogs created in QuarkXPress, I knew I had to find a way to painlessly convert them to InDesign.” White continues, “After a bit of research, I found the Markzware Q2ID software.
Reviews were solid and the price was reasonable, so I purchased the software and took it to task. I was thrilled and amazed at the results. Sure, there were a few little oddball remnants left after the translation, but there was very, very little clean up work involved. It would have taken me untold hours of my own manual work to do what Q2ID did in a flash!
This could be the best thing since sliced bread, at least in the form of conversion utilities.” Lee McKevitt of LAM Graphics SW Florida says of the Q2ID InDesign plugin, “Having been a Quark user for many years, your product has saved me much time and effort. I have been able to switch any number of existing files to InDesign with little or no problem. A heartfelt thanks!”

I have some really old Quark files which I am not sure what version of the Quark these files made from. How do I know the Q2ID can convert these files before I actually purchase Q2ID?
Hi Alex, very good question.
How can one see inside files without having the native Quark or Adobe applications? FlightCheck!
FlightCheck v6.76 for Mac is also from Markzware and allows you to preflight or get an inventory of what is used within Desktop publishing layouts, like QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and even Photoshop. It will even package these up for you as well!
In your case, FlightCheck can also be used to see what is the version of the file. Just download FlightCheck, drop the DTP files onto it’s icon and then look under the “File Info” section of the preflight report.
Did that help?
Friendly Regards,

Is Q2ID v5.5 backward compatible with regard to Quark files (ie able to convert from older versions of Quark)? If you prefer, files created in which versions of Quark does Q2ID v5.5 read and convert to ID?
Also, I use Mac and PC. Do I need to buy Q2ID v5.5 twice?
Hello Andre, Possessing both the Mac and PC versions would be ideal as Q2ID v5.5 works within Adobe InDesign CS5.5, CS5 or CS4 and will convert and open any earlier version of QuarkXPress. Furthermore, Q2ID is also cross-platform capable, so you can convert Windows Quark files right into InDesign on a Mac with Q2ID v5.5 for Mac. (and the other way around as well) – Since InDesign’s file format is cross-platform as well, you can then share those newly converted files from Mac to PC -
BUT the only issue is fonts. Obviously there you need to make sure you substitute used fonts… that is why you would be better off with a Q2ID v5.5 for each platform (Mac and Win), but you can get away with just one copy if budget is an issue and you have spare time.
