PageZephyr Application Setup
001 – Welcome to PageZephyr
The PageZephyr Setup welcome screen gives a quick overview of PageZephyr and some ideas on how you might use PageZephyr. Of course, we would love to hear how you actually use PageZephyr. Click Continue (1) to move onto the next setup screen.
002 – File Type Settings
Tell PageZephyr which kinds of files you would like it to index. You can select either QuarkXPress files (1), InDesign files (2), Publisher files (3) or any combination of the three file formats. When you have finished click on the Continue button (4) to move onto the next PageZephyr setup screen.
**Note that PageZephyr can read files created on Windows computers regardless of whether the file is an InDesign, Quark or Publisher file.
003 – Folder Search Settings, Method 1 Navigation window
In this method, click the “+ ” button (1) navigate to the folder (2) or volume you want to add to PageZephyr’s Search Settings list, highlight the folder and then click Open (3) to add the folder to the list.
This will add the specified folders or volumes to the Search Folders area list of paths (4).
004 – Folder Search Settings, Method 2, Drag-And-Drop onto the Open Window
PageZephyr also lets you add folders by dragging-and-dropping them into the Open Window (2).
In this method, click the “+ ” button (1) tol bring up the Open Window (2), then select the folder or volume you want to add to PageZephyr’s Search Settings list. Highlight the folder or volume (3) and then drag-and-drop it onto the Open Window(4). You will now see the folder or volume name (5) appear at the top of the Open Window (5). Click on the Open button (6) to add the selected folder or volume to the Search Folders (7) list.
To continue on with your setup click on the Continue button (8).
**Drag-And-drop does not work during initial PageZephyr setup, it only works if you add folders after you have completed the initial PageZephyr setup and have gone back into PageZephyr Preferences to add additional paths.
005 – Document Display Settings
In this screen, you decide whether you would like to view Styled Stories or Plain Text. By default, the Show Styled Stories checkbox (1) is disabled. Enabling Show Styled Stories causes PageZephyr to do extra work behind the scenes to deal with fonts and colors and thus PageZephyr takes a hit in performance when this checkbox is enabled. You can always change this setting later by bringing up PageZephyr’s Preference pane. Initially, you may want to leave Show Styled Stories disabled and then, after working with PageZephyr for a while, try enabling it.
006 – Application Update Settings
In this PageZephyr setup screen, you configure PageZephyr to deal with updates. If you select the Automatically check for updates box (1), PageZephyr will check for updates each time you start up the application and while running the application. If you disable this checkbox, you can always manually check for updates by going to the PageZephyr menu and selecting Check for Updates…
If you do select Automatically check for updates, you can tell PageZephyr how often you would like it to check for updates (2). You can also select whether to just inform you that an update is available or to download the update (3).
Finally, you have the option to send an anonymous system profile (4) to us for marketing purposes. This sends us anonymous information about your system, like type of computer and amount of RAM. No personal information will be sent to us. We use this information to help us understand general trends such as how many users are using OS X 10.5.8 versus 10.6 or 10.6.6.
Click the Finish button (5) to complete initial PageZephyr setup.
007 – PageZephyr Main Window
Once you have completed the initial setup of PageZephyr you will see the main PageZephyr window. During the initial setup, the folders that were selected contain several files as shown above in the Indexed Document Count area (1). If you selected a large list of files to be indexed, you will see the file list grow as PageZephyr completes processing of files.. You will also see a pinwheel progress indicator in the lower right corner of PageZephyr’s Main window(2) as PageZephyr processes files.
To the left of the pinwheel progress indicator you will see status text (3) letting you know what operation or function PageZephyr is currently performing. In the example above, PageZephyr is Indexing some files.
