Preflight Spot Colors? Preflight RGB images? Oh, what a problem these document items can be for desktop publishing (DTP) and printing! Christine Kurokowski, graphic designer and production artist for TruServ in Winnipeg, Canada, recently expressed issues she faces and handles when preflighting:
“A common preflight problem that I have is with spot colors and RGB images. We need all of our files to be CMYK for printing. It is important that FlightCheck finds all of my images that haven’t been converted to CMYK, and to let me know if there were any spot colors in the logos that we get from our suppliers, so I can convert all my images and files to CMYK.”
Given all the desktop publishing applications that are available, Kurkowski mainly uses QuarkXPress, Photoshop and Illustrator. FlightCheck, the preflight solution from Markzware, has the ability to check all of those file applications during prepress to ensure printing quality. Kurokowski said, “FlightCheck is very important and I have been using it for as long as I have been working here at TruServ, which is over 12 years. We don’t preflight the PDFs, because we make those after we have preflighted our original QuarkXPress files with FlightCheck. We wanted to ensure that all of our files were sent out correctly with minimal chance for any prepress errors. I would highly recommend using FlightCheck; it has more than once caught issues that may have caused us problems when we sent files out to press.”
By ensuring printing quality before printing, FlightCheck helps avoid reprinting, thus saving materials and costs. FlightCheck preflight solution is available online from Markzware via the FlightCheck page.
