ID Util for macOS is one of Markzware’s Freebies for desktop publishing (DTP) users who handle Adobe InDesign files. This standalone application allows you to view InDesign previews, styled story content, linked images, and used fonts. You can make comparisons between several files. You can also export the INDD document previews in a PDF, PNG or JPG file format.
How to Use ID Util
• Install ID Util for macOS by Markzware.
• Select the InDesign, IDML, or InCopy file in Finder.
• To preview the selected file, click the spacebar. (For thumbnail-sized previews, view your files in thumbnail view. To see more detail, zoom in. To see multiple pages at once, zoom out.)

• InDesign or IDML file page size info.
• Zoom controls and preset zoom hot keys.

• Resave HD option to view high-definition previews of InDesign files (if the appropriate InDesign version is active on your computer).

Want to preview more than one InDesign file at a time? ID Util for macOS can enable that. Just drag and drop multiple files onto ID Util’s “Drag and drop” area. Markzware‘s ID Util will display each file’s preview in a separate window. To select multiple files for previewing, click File > Open, then press Command-Click or Shift-Click. Each file’s preview will open in its own individual window. If the Welcome Window gets covered by those preview windows, you can press Command-Semicolon, to put the Welcome Window in front of the previews.
• Copy Previews
Click on a preview to select and highlight the preview. Press Command-C to copy the selected preview to the Clipboard. Paste the copy of the preview into your chosen applications.

If you have several versions of one main design that you or a team member created in InDesign, how do you know which is the file you need? Is it more recent, with more content and more pages?
