Markzware customer question on ID2Q Adobe InDesign QuarkXPress digital document converter:
We have just purchased your ID2Q (InDesign to Quark) application (XTension) and I have followed the install notes but when I launch QuarkXpress, I receive the following error:
The application preferences file is damaged. Please remove it and re-launch QuarkXpress.
I would appreciate any assistance you can provide.
Thank you for purchasing ID2Q. As you read and saw, in theory the installation of ID2Q is pretty straight forward. You can view a video on it here as well:
The error you are getting about QuarkXPress application preferences sounds more like something to contact Quark about, sorry. From what I searched online though, it may be as simple as this:
You need to recreate the Preferences of QuarkXPress.
Location of the Quark preferences on Windows XP:
C:\ Documents and Settings \ (Name of User) \ Application Data \ Quark \ QuarkXPress x.x
Location of the Quark preferences on Windows Vista:
C:\ Users \ (Name of User) \ AppData \ Local \ Quark \ QuarkXPress x.x
“You need to recreate the Preferences of QuarkXPress. For that navigate to
C:\Documents and Settings\Your user\Application data\\Quark
Rename the folder from QuarkXPress 7 to old QuarkXPress and Relaunch QuarkXPress. Yes you need to reset all the Preferences of QuarkXPress afterwards. Note: Application data is hidden folder. You need to unhide that folder from Tools>>folder options>>View tab>>Show hidden files and folders.”
Location of the Quark preferences on OSX:
Macintosh HD / Users / (Name of User) / Library / Preferences / Quark / QuarkXPress x.x
If you’re on a Mac the preferences file is in main HD/users/user who is logged in/library/preferences – just bin the folder called Quark within that directory.
That’s with Quark closed, by the way. When you re-open Quark it’ll remake its preferences. Remember all those things you set as default (like deleting the RGB colours, changing H&Js or whatever) will have reverted to the way they were at first installation.
Markzware hopes this helps anyone who encounters this issue, which I have frankly not seen all that often in document conversions from Adobe digital to QuarkXPress. Please let Markzware know if you have any questions regarding converting documents from Adobe digital InDesign CS to QuarkXPress with Markzware ID2Q.
