Pub2ID v3 Added Adobe InDesign CS5 Support

SANTA ANA, California, September 14, 2010 — Markzware announced Pub2ID v3, an upgrade to its Microsoft Publisher-to-Adobe InDesign conversion plug-in for Macintosh and Windows.

The upgrade added support for Adobe InDesign CS5 while retaining support for InDesign CS4. Pub2ID allowed users to convert Microsoft Publisher content into editable InDesign documents without recreating every page manually.

“With Pub2ID, it is possible to bring all of your old MS Publisher documents into the twenty-first century and open them magically and painlessly in Adobe InDesign CS5.”

Michael Shaw, MaUsE president and editor of MaUsE DoubleClick

What Pub2ID v3 Converted

The historical Pub2ID v3 conversion process transferred many document elements from Publisher into InDesign, including:

  • Page size and object positioning
  • Colors, fonts and text styles
  • Text attributes and tables
  • Text wrap, flow and linked text boxes
  • Layers and formatting effects
  • Images embedded in the Publisher file

Converted Documents Still Required Review

The original announcement explained that Publisher and InDesign use different methods of text rendering and graphical representation. Text flow, custom kerning, tracking, leading, transparency and other effects could require adjustment after conversion.

Markzware recommended carefully proofing every converted document before production or printing. That remains an important step in modern document-conversion workflows.

Current Publisher-to-InDesign Options

Pub2ID and its original system requirements and pricing are no longer current. Today, Publisher files can be converted into IDML for Adobe InDesign using:

Markzware also offers a File Conversion Service for documents requiring individual assistance.
