Pub2ID v3 Brought Publisher Conversion to Adobe CS5
SANTA ANA, California, May 19, 2010 — Markzware announced Pub2ID v3, a Microsoft Publisher-to-Adobe InDesign plug-in for Macintosh and Windows that added support for Adobe Creative Suite 5.
The release allowed users to migrate Microsoft Publisher content into new Adobe InDesign CS5 documents without manually reconstructing every page.
“With Pub2ID it is possible to bring all of your old MS Publisher documents into the twenty-first century and open them magically and painlessly in Adobe InDesign.”
Michael Shaw, MaUsE president and editor of MaUsE DoubleClick
How the Adobe CS5 Plug-in Worked
Users launched the historical conversion through the Markzware > Pub2ID > Convert MS Publisher Document menu inside Adobe InDesign.
Pub2ID attempted to transfer important Publisher document elements, including:
- Page size and object positioning
- Color models, fonts and text styles
- Text attributes and tables
- Layers, text wrap and linked text boxes
- Images embedded in the Publisher document
Why Converted Documents Required Proofing
Microsoft Publisher and Adobe InDesign use different methods of rendering text and graphics. The original announcement cautioned that text flow, kerning, tracking, leading and graphical effects could require additional work after conversion.
Every converted document should be reviewed for fonts, images, transparency, colors, text flow and layout before production or printing.
Current Alternatives to the Pub2ID Plug-in
The original Pub2ID v3 system requirements, pricing and availability are no longer current. Today, users can convert Publisher files into IDML for Adobe InDesign with:
- MarkzPortal for online conversion.
- OmniMarkz for macOS.
- OmniMarkz SE for Windows.
Markzware also offers a File Conversion Service for Publisher documents requiring individual assistance.
