Using Google Gemini Live AI – A FlightCheck Workflow

In this video, David Dilling from Markzware explores how Google Gemini Live AI can be used to assist graphic designers working in applications like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Markzware FlightCheck. This exciting workflow demonstrates real-time AI interaction, helping designers detect AI-generated images and streamline their preflight processes.

The inspiration for this method comes from Mordy Golding, and David shows how Google AI Studio’s Gemini Live can actively engage in conversation while users work inside their design applications. With screen sharing enabled, Gemini AI provides real-time assistance, making it an invaluable tool for preflighting, troubleshooting, and AI content detection in design files.

How Google Gemini Live AI Works in FlightCheck

Enable Gemini Live – Visit AI Studio and switch to Stream Real-Time Mode to enable voice interaction with Gemini AI.

:small_blue_diamond:

Use FlightCheck for Preflighting – Open InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop files without requiring the original applications.

:small_blue_diamond:

Detect AI-Generated Images – FlightCheck’s Ground Controls can flag generative AI content stored in supported Photoshop files and display available prompt information when that metadata is present.

Share Reports with Clients – Export preflight and inventory reports in HTML, JSON, or XML formats for easy client communication.

Step-by-Step Guide to AI-Powered Preflighting

1. Activate Google Gemini AI Live

• Navigate to AI Studio and select Stream Real-Time Mode to enable interactive voice commands.

• Drag and drop your Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop files into FlightCheck.

• Perform a deep preflight check without needing the original design applications.

• FlightCheck FlightCheck scans the file and, when supported generative-AI metadata is present, flags it under “Uses Generative AI.” When available, FlightCheck can also display prompt information stored in the file.

• The software even displays the AI prompt used to generate the images!

The option "Uses Generative AI (Beta)" is highlighted with a yellow background and a red oval, indicating that the feature is turned on. Other visible options include "Has an Alpha Channel," "Has a Spot Channel," "Uses Non-Normal Transparency," "Opacity is less than 100%," and more.

Screenshot of Markzware’s FlightCheck software analyzing an InDesign 2025 file named ‘USA_Roadtrip_FP_2025.indd.’ The image is split into two sections. The top section shows ‘Inventory Mode,’ displaying document details such as file size (9.5MB), creation and modification dates, number of colors (9), fonts (15), images (31), and pages (11). The bottom section shows ‘Preflight Mode,’ where FlightCheck runs a quality check, revealing 18 errors and 96 warnings, with details about fonts, images, and colors. The FlightCheck Approval Score is 94%.

• Switch between Preflight Mode (to check for errors and warnings) and Inventory Mode (to get a complete document overview).

• Identify issues with fonts, colors, linked vs. embedded images, and more.

•Customize reports with your branding before sharing them with clients or production teams.

•Use FlightCheck’s built-in reporting feature to generate detailed HTML, JSON, or XML reports.

The window displays contact information fields including Name, Email, Phone, Organization, Title, Website, and Logo URL, filled with example details for "John Doe" from "Acme Printing." Below, the "Advanced Options" section includes "Font Scaling" set at 100%, a "Custom Web Font" section showing a web font link and CSS font-family rule, and a "Markzware Affiliate ID" field with a disabled input box. A "Customize" button is visible at the bottom left.

Preflight – Why This Matters to Graphic Designers

This workflow saves time and ensures that AI-generated content is identified before print production. Many design teams now incorporate AI tools like Midjourney, Firefly, and DALL·E, making it essential to verify AI usage in documents before going to print.

By integrating Google Gemini Live AI into FlightCheck’s powerful preflighting tools, designers can:

:rocket:

Review available generative-AI metadata when present

:rocket:

Analyze complex design files without needing InDesign or Illustrator

:rocket:

Ensure print-ready files with comprehensive reports
