XML Output – Markzware Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary with New Solutions and Grand Plans for Drupa 2004

RIJSWIJK, The Netherlands – February 26, 2004 – The year 2004 marks XML output and Markzware’s 10-year anniversary of service to the global graphic arts, printing and digital multimedia industries.

Markzware is the leading developer of print quality control, patented preflight and desktop search technologies, such as PageZephyr. PageZephyr can search text in Adobe InDesign for publishing use in print or web, including blogs.

Markzware’s theme for Drupa 2004 is, “Quality Results With Technology You Can Trust.” To educate the market on eliminating any print error and providing XML, print-ready PDF creation, Markzware will be showcasing its quality control technology, including the full line of FlightCheck solutions at Drupa in Hall 4, Stand A05. This essential quality control tool for all participants in the print and multimedia manufacturing workflow. XML output of preflight reports sets the industry standard for print quality preflight, by detecting problems, providing details on how to correct potential problems, and collecting fonts, images and required elements for successful output.

Markzware is also releasing the updated version of its powerful FlightCheck Workflow V3.1 (formerly known as MarkzScout), designed for prepress operations as a workflow management tool used to create an automated pathway for digital files processing through the workflow. It is the only user-definable, cross-platform, open application that inspects, sorts, filters and categorizes digital files in the print workflow.

“Commercially, FlightCheck Workflow enables us, as a Markzware Authorized Solution Provider, to provide our customers with bespoke yet open additions to both existing and custom created solutions from this technology, such as our solution called Good2Print” says Tim Cox, co-director of ROI Distribution in England. Inpetto, a Markzware Authorized Solution Provider in Germany, will also be showcasing its solutions based on FlightCheck Professional and FlightCheck Workflow technology.

In other exciting news, Vio Ltd and ROI Distribution, Ltd, also Markzware Authorized Solution Providers, will showcase their solutions based on Markzware’s FlightCheck Online (formerly known as MarkzNet), the first remote preflight printing application that provides quality control of digital jobs and assets over the Internet. It is a server solution that enables prepress personnel, printers, publishers or any organization receiving a high volume of digital files from external or internal sources to check digital files against a customized set of preflight XML rules defined by the recipient. The sender is automatically notified of errors and required corrections before the job is submitted into the prepress workflow.

This third Drupa participation for Markzware will be filled with exciting news about XML output. Markzware will demonstrate XMLazarus (Markzware PageZephyr replaces XMLazarus), a stand-alone and plug-in technology that enables content creators and their manufacturing partners to tap into proprietary digital documents. Data from current as well as obsolete file formats can be extracted into a new, XML-rich document with the original content, design, styles and layout preserved. The data may then be converted into other proprietary file formats with a Markzware plug-in utility.

PageZephyr can search for specific keywords in proprietary file formats, such as InDesign, then allow the user to edit and extract for creation of new content. It is important to keep your online content current and PageZephyr can help.

According to David Dilling, Managing Director for Markzware Europe B.V., “XMLazarus [see PageZephyr] works with not just current XML-enabled desktop publishing applications, but multiple types of legacy documents from current as well as obsolete applications. XMLazarus and XML output has the capability to convert files created by all of the most widely used desktop publishing applications, including QuarkXPress, InDesign, PageMaker, Word, Publisher, to an XML format with a single drag and drop or batch process.”

“While there are a few XTensions and plug-in products on the market that can export content and metadata,” Dilling notes, “XMLazarus is the first and only stand-alone technology that works across a broad spectrum of native applications and versions. The XML Output technology can also be easily embedded in an OEM application or integrated into existing systems, without the need for additional licensing for the supported applications.”

PageZephyr is a flexible content search engine. A content management system empowered by XMLazarus can access legacy data from non-XML-enabled publications. Users can not only re-purpose the information but also reconstitute the document in its original form. Markzware’s XMLazarus test suite is currently available to OEMs, developers and other interested parties.

Other Markzware Drupa announcements will include a white-paper technical brief detailing Markzware’s plans, as head of the CIP4 preflight committee, for implementing the important new JDF 1.2 standard specification. Visit Markzware at Drupa Hall 4, Stand A05.
