FlightCheck Training in Media Arts Department of Leicester College
SANTA ANA, California – March 25, 2004 – Markzware, the leader in FlightCheck training and preflight solutions for the printing and publishing industries, is pleased to announce that it will provide the Media Arts Department at Leicester College in the UK with a donation of Markzware’s multi-award winning preflight software, FlightCheck Professional v5, worth more than £30,000.00.
This Media Arts announcement follows Markzware’s approach to continuing education in the global printing industry, teaching the best practices in print and multimedia file exchange. Previously, Markzware made FlightCheck training, software and donations to educational institutions such as The Rochester Institute of Technology, Fox Valley Technical College’s Printing & Publishing in Wisconsin, The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Cal Poly of San Luis Obispo, and the Graphic Arts Technical Foundations (GATF/PIA) to name a few.
“The Media Arts Department was proud and excited to utilize Markzware products in the making of its Senior Photography catalogs. Without FlightCheck training and the software itself, this small catalog would have never made it to press,” according to Harris Fogel, chairman of The University of the Arts media arts department. Professor Fogel continues, “Not only did the Senior Photography catalog make it to press, but it made it there with no pre-press errors, just preflight and print!”
Markzware and it’s FlightCheck training team has made many other educational donations throughout Europe. Markzware has several more major announcements to follow soon with regards to media arts and design in general.
Leicester College is situated in the heart of Leicester City, in the Midlands region of England. The college and it’s media arts department is one of the 10 largest Further Education (FE) Colleges in England, with approximately 43,000 students and 1,600 staff members and faculty. Leicester College is the only general FE college in Leicester and offers a broad range of courses, from entry level up to higher education studies. Higher National Diploma, which is a two year full time course, is available with progression routes through to degrees in Print and Digital Media. Leicester College has been accredited as a “Cove” Centre of Vocational Excellence for print skills. Media arts is a huge part of all this.
The College’s “National Printing Skills Center” will be offering preflighting and FlightCheck training on Markzware’s complete line of printing solutions. (This pre press software includes FlightCheck Professional, FlightCheck Workflow and FlightCheck Online). For more information and a brochure, contact Damian Breen, the Education Liaison Officer on +44 (0)116 251 2367.
“Preflight software, such as Markzware’s FlightCheck Professional, has really come into its element. More and more is being asked of graphic designers and prepress operatives alike in media arts, and with time being at a premium in this industry, this is the sure way of ensuring we educate our learners so they are ready for the real world. It will help them ensure their digital artwork is correct for purpose before creating a PDF or before supplying digital artwork to a printer – we are talking ‘preflight’ here as opposed to ‘postflight’ – why make the same PDF twice,” says Kenneth Bailey, MASP, Lecturer for Print and Media from Leicester College.
In October 2003, Markzware introduced the latest release of its flagship print-quality-assurance application, FlightCheck Professional v5. This media arts solution offers customizable print quality control for graphic artists, production professionals, and print and multimedia manufacturers. FlightCheck Professional v5 scans a wide variety of PDF and source file types (including those created in InDesign, QuarkXPress, PageMaker, Multi-Ad Creator, Illustrator and FreeHand) and validates documents for output specification requirements and completeness. A FlightCheck training course could tell you this!
FlightCheck Professional v5 offers a PDF object model that allows access to virtually all intricate details within a PDF file, based on the official Adobe specification. In addition, the media arts and printing solution also checks and validates accredited standards-based file formats, including Pass4Press, Ghent Group, PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3. Markzware will be highlighting FlightCheck Professional, FlightCheck training and all of its other solutions, and making some exciting announcements at drupa in Hall 4, stand A05.
