SANTA ANA, California – February 21, 2006 – Markzware (https://markzware.com), developer of preflighting, data extraction, & conversion software, is pleased to announce the immediate availability of FlightCheck Professional v5.8. This update is available for FlightCheck Professional on both Macintosh and Windows platforms.

FlightCheck Professional 5.8 now has expanded PDF preflight checking based upon the Ghent PDF Workgroup’s (GWG) PDF/X PLUS specification. The GWG has established best practice specifications for the production and PDF preflight files for a variety of specialist applications. Now, FlightCheck comes with built-in Ground Controls that validate and preflight PDF files to the GWG specifications for more secure and productive digital workflows.

“By including practical PDF/X PLUS validation within our new FlightCheck 5.8 this will surely help our customers establish better PDF processes within print workflows,” said Patrick Marchese, CEO of Markzware. He continues, “Since 1995, PDF preflighting has been Markzware’s main focus, so our recent efforts in obtaining compliance with Ghent Workgroup specifications further solidifies our role as a technology leader in this market.”

“The Ghent PDF Workgroup is delighted that Markzware, a leading developer of patented preflight solutions, has made its software compliant with the GWG Version 2,” says Peter Maes, GWG Technical Officer. “Most of the GWG compliant solutions today focus on the PDF creation and control; with Markzware software being now compliant with GWG v2 Specifications, the control is also moving upstream to the layout stage of production.”

A number of other customer suggestions have been implemented and optimized in this upgrade, including:

  • Improved handling for Gradients and Blends
  • Embedded ICC profile detection for Photoshop EPS
  • Improved Text Overprint reporting for PDF
  • Improved Artificial Text Styling detection for PDF
  • Detection of Special Print Options for InDesign files
