“The printing bug bit me at a job fair when I was in 9th grade. I took every printing course I could in high school and, after graduating, I attended St. Paul Technical/Vocational Institute. During school, I worked for a couple of printers. Once I graduated, I completed an ITU apprenticeship program and have been a printer ever since (40+ years). I administer the production network, oversee the production department, maintain the production of computers, compose pages for our 5 publications (when necessary), give the finished pages a final OK, produce ads, produce jobs that in, etc.”
Working in the printing industry for such a length of time provided Wolson with a lot of valuable knowledge and experience. “Two of the biggest problems I encounter are RGB pictures/art and pictures/art scaled in the original program. The ability to preflight jobs is #1. Nothing goes to a printer without being run through Markzware’s FlightCheck. I like the ability to be able to preflight a job immediately. I don’t have to log in a website to do the preflight, I just do it. FlightCheck is the only preflight software I have ever used. I used to manually check the files before sending. I seldom postflight files. I used to, but I never found anything wrong. Preflighting with FlightCheck seems to catch everything. Once in a while, I’ll use Acrobat to postflight aPDF, but not not very often. I wanted software to do what I was doing manually. Our printer at the time told me about FlightCheck, and so he showed me how it worked and the advantages of using it so I immediately bought it. This product is so important for me to use, especially if you’re getting files from outside sources, especially from (I hate to call them this but some are) amateurs.”
