Radio Frequency Identification or RFID, is an interesting technology akin to ‘big brother is watching’. It also provides numerous opportunities for printers and for graphic arts in general. RFID tags are widely used in various products to automate the “checking in” and “checking out” process from warehouse or store inventories. The question is: Does RFID stop calling home? (The chip stays with the item.)

This stand was specially hosted by the show management! Now, imagine RFID technology used within your printed piece. Imagine how a cell phone could scan that printed piece (e.g., an advertisement) and give details back on that product to the potential buyer – or even order it! Imagine handing out 10,000 brochures at an event. How many took them out the door and did not throw them out? How about preflight report tracking when you preflight digital files with FlightCheck?
