A preflight survey was taken on the state of file delivery, PDF usage and PDF preflight in the graphic arts workflow. Preflighting can be handled by FlightCheck, the patented preflight solution from Markzware. FlightCheck checks documents for print quality control to prevent printing errors and save money. This part of the preflight survey caught our attention:
It is less encouraging seeing that only sixty percent of PDF files get preflighted before being sent on in the workflow. “Enfocus, and other parties such as the Ghent PDF Workgroup, have spent an enormous amount of time and effort on advocating the need for quality control. Our survey shows that there is still a large amount of users who are not convinced of the need to check every PDF file that hits their workflow. Continued education remains of the essence!” concludes van Driessche. Source
Even with tools that offer PDF preflight in various forms, many in the graphic arts workflow still do not take the time to administer print quality control measures! This part of the preflight survey was interesting:
“In the last 12 months, respondents reported that 53% of jobs were submitted in PDF format, while 78% of the jobs they sent out, either inside or outside their company, were PDF.”
This preflight survey shows exactly why a stand-alone preflighting software power-house, like FlightCheck by Markzware, is needed. This pre press software can preflight PDF and many other file types, including:
With how easy Markzware FlightCheck makes it to preflight PDF files,
and how much time and money it saves you in the graphic arts workflow,
there is simply no excuse for not ensuring print quality control.
