Markzware‘s MarkzTools for InDesign helps users to open InDesign CS5.5 in Adobe InDesign CS5: 

MarkzTools for InDesign allows the InDesign CS5 through CS6 version you are running to open a higher version InDesign document! This means users can open Adobe InDesign CS5.5 within an InDesign file (INDD document) launched in CS5.

Graphic designers and creative professionals can open and edit a higher version INDD document in a lower version. Open InDesign CC, InDesign CC 2014, InDesign CS6, or InDesign CS5.5 within Adobe InDesign CS5!

InDesign CS5 users may need to send files to CS5.5 or CS6 users. Without MarkzTools, the CS5.5 file would be saved as an IDML file and the recipient would open that IDML file in InDesign CS5. With MarkzTools, the recipient can open InDesign CS5.5 directly within InDesign CS5.

Open higher version InDesign files in lower versions of Adobe CS.

How to Use MarkzTools for InDesign

• Go to the MarkzTools menu.
• Select “Convert InDesign Document“.
• Select the InDesign document that you want to convert.

Use Command-O within Adobe InDesign, after loading MarkzTools:
• You will see an Adobe dialog stating you need a higher version of InDesign to open the file.
• Then, you will see a MarkzTools window asking if you want to convert the file.
• Click OK and MarkzTools will convert the InDesign file.

The Annual Subscription gives the user one year’s use of MarkzTools for CS6, CS5.5 and CS5 Mac on a single computer, including that year’s updates and upgrades. The year starts on the date of purchase. After the year is complete, users can renew their subscription and continue using MarkzTools.
