How Francesca Forte Converts Canva PDFs to InDesign Using MarkzPortal

Converting Canva PDFs to InDesign with MarkzPortal

Francesca Forte of BLC Spain – Business and Language College Spain Customer Reviews MarkzPortal.

How Francesca Forte Uses MarkzPortal to Improve Her Workflow

Francesca Forte, a marketing professional at BLC Spain, plays a vital role in ensuring smooth content creation for her institution’s digital and print materials. At BLC Spain, an institution specializing in business and language programs, she and her team rely on both Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud.

While Canva is excellent for collaboration and quick designs, when it comes to print-ready materials, Adobe InDesign is the preferred tool. The challenge, however, was converting Canva PDFs into editable IDML for Adobe InDesign — until she discovered MarkzPortal.

The Challenge: Moving from Canva to InDesign

For years, Francesca and her team at BLC Spain leveraged Canva’s ease of use to create marketing assets. However, when preparing materials for professional printing, they encountered a major roadblock—printers required InDesign files. Canva’s exported PDFs lacked editable layers, making modifications in InDesign difficult and time-consuming.

Finding MarkzPortal

Francesca initially searched online for a solution and came across MarkzPortal while researching Canva-to-InDesign conversion options. Although she had used various file conversion tools before, they often failed to retain the design integrity. Her concern was whether MarkzPortal would simply change the file format or actually maintain the layers and structure of the design.

To verify its capabilities, Francesca watched a YouTube video demonstrating MarkzPortal’s ability to convert files while keeping layers intact.

Convinced by what she saw, she decided to give it a try.

Seamless Conversion with MarkzPortal

Francesca uploaded a Canva-exported PDF to MarkzPortal, and within moments, she was able to preview the file and confirm that the converted design retained the elements she needed to continue editing.

The process was simple and effective, saving her team hours of manual work.

The Results Were Impressive:

Improving the User Experience

While Francesca found MarkzPortal invaluable, she also suggested some enhancements to improve the user experience. One issue was the payment process—her team initially purchased a subscription under a different email, causing access issues. She recommended making it clearer that the email used for purchase should match the MarkzPortal account.

Additionally, she proposed a one-time use option for occasional users who don’t require a full subscription. She also highlighted the importance of making promotional offers more visible at checkout so users could take advantage of any available discounts.

Update (July 2026): MarkzPortal now offers pay-per-use conversion pricing starting at $10 per document, alongside subscription and enterprise options.

Conclusion: A Game-Changer for Marketing Teams

Francesca highly recommends MarkzPortal to other professionals dealing with similar challenges. The ability to seamlessly convert Canva files to InDesign has drastically improved BLC Spain’s workflow, ensuring they can efficiently prepare both digital and print-ready assets.

As Canva continues to dominate as a design tool, businesses need a reliable way to transition their designs into professional publishing software. MarkzPortal fills this gap, making it an essential tool for any team working across multiple design platforms.

For institutions and businesses that require seamless file conversion, MarkzPortal simplifies workflows and saves valuable time—just as it did for Francesca and BLC Spain.

Video Transcription

Markzware: Hi everybody, today we have a special guest all the way from lovely Madrid. Francesca, how are you?
Francesca: I’m good, thank you. How are you?
Markzware: Very good, thank you. And Francesca Forte, correct?
Francesca: Yes.
Markzware: Beautiful. You work for BLC Spain and you’re a MarkzPortal customer converting a Canva PDF to Adobe InDesign. We’ll get to that in a second. Maybe you can first give us a little bit of background about who you are.
Francesca: I’m Francesca, and I work in the marketing department of BLC Spain, Business and Language College. We provide undergraduate and graduate programs here in Madrid with a focus on business and Spanish fluency. All of our programs include Spanish but are taught in English.
Markzware: Oh wow, so you start in English and then add Spanish?
Francesca: Yes, all of our programs include Spanish as an addition.
Markzware: Excellent. And I saw on your LinkedIn that you also worked in India for a while?
Francesca: Yes, I worked as a Spanish teacher before, which is why I’m related to similar businesses here in Spain.
Markzware: Wow, that must have been very interesting and a lot of fun.
Francesca: Yes, it was! Our main programs include a master’s degree in digital marketing with AI and Spanish, and a master’s in business administration and Spanish. We are very focused on AI right now and integrating Spanish into business programs because we believe it’s an important addition for future professionals. We also have programs for those interested in becoming entrepreneurs in Spain, including a master’s degree in digital entrepreneurship.
Markzware: That sounds amazing. I understand you also have four-year degree programs in these areas?
Francesca: Yes, and for those interested in coming to Spain, they can visit our website to learn more.
Markzware: Excellent. You’re not only in Madrid, correct?
Francesca: Yes, students start in Madrid, but for the later years of their programs, they can choose to continue in Malaga, Valencia, or Barcelona.
Markzware: All beautiful places! I love Spain. Hopefully, you’re not getting too much rain anymore down there?
Francesca: Yes, in Valencia specifically, we had a lot of rain, but it’s improving.
The Challenge: Working with Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud
Markzware: So at BLC, you’re working with both Canva and Adobe products?
Francesca: Yes, especially to collaborate as a team. Sometimes, people who don’t use Adobe can still view and contribute to designs using Canva. But for print, we need InDesign, and that’s where MarkzPortal became useful for us.
Markzware: So are you creating designs only for online use, or also for print?
Francesca: Both, actually.
Markzware: How long have you been using Canva at BLC?
Francesca: Around four years.
Markzware: And how do you like Canva in general?
Francesca: We find it very useful because it’s so accessible, even for beginners. But for printing, we often need designs in InDesign, and that’s where we ran into issues.
Markzware: I see. Are you also using InDesign regularly?
Francesca: Yes, we have a lot of our materials in InDesign. The challenge comes when we try to get Canva files into InDesign while keeping layers intact.
Finding MarkzPortal
Markzware: How did you find out about MarkzPortal?
Francesca: Through a Google search. We were looking for a way to convert a PDF to InDesign. We had tried other tools like Word-to-PDF converters but found them lacking in preserving design integrity.
Markzware: So when you found MarkzPortal, what were your first impressions?
Francesca: At first, we weren’t sure if it would keep layers. We wanted to confirm that before paying. I researched further and found a YouTube video showing that MarkzPortal does maintain layers, so we decided to purchase it.
Markzware: That’s great feedback! So how did the conversion actually work for you?
Francesca: It was really useful. The conversion was accurate, and we only had to spend about two hours refining the design after conversion—much faster than manually rebuilding everything.
Markzware: Would you recommend MarkzPortal to others?
Francesca: Absolutely. It’s a very useful tool. With Canva becoming so popular, there’s a growing need for solutions that can convert files for professional printing in InDesign.
Markzware: That’s great to hear! Before we go, where can people learn more about BLC Spain?
Francesca: They can visit our website at www.blcspain.com.
Markzware: Excellent. Thank you so much for your time, Francesca. We appreciate your feedback and for being a MarkzPortal customer!
Francesca: Thank you, too!
