Convert QuarkXPress to an InDesign File with Q2ID for InDesign CS6 Adobe Creative Suite
Tony Anni, marketing director for Sponge-Jet, works on creative projects using Adobe Creative Suite InDesign graphic software. Some of these graphic design projects include product data sheets, posters, display items, trade show signage and equipment manuals.
Anni manages the conception, creation and publishing of all promotional documents. Sponge-Jet is a global company headquartered in Newington, NH and is the world’s leading manufacturer of dry, low-dust, recyclable abrasive blasting media and high-production equipment.
In the past, Anni had used QuarkXPress graphic software to create nearly all of their printed collateral. As a growing international company, Sponge-Jet began to have a growing requirement for data conversion software with the appropriate document conversion tools. Graphic design file conversion became a workflow priority and the search was on for a compatible InDesign plugin.
In my opinion, QuarkXPress wasn’t positioned well to cost-effectively handle American companies creating foreign documents. I recall at the time, one would have to buy an entirely new program to (say for example) create Asian files; that was when we started to look at new ways to solve the problem.
We needed a product that could take these QuarkXPress files and transfer them to Adobe InDesign. Our translation company mentioned something was out there and our designer had mentioned the same. We did the research and found Markzware and it’s conversion solution, Q2ID.
The Q2ID software plays an integral role, as we continue to transition hundreds of documents from Quark to InDesign. The process saves us at a minimum a few hours per file. So conservatively, we are looking at saving 600-700 hours of lost production – or gaining that if you want to look at it another way. We use Q2ID weekly to open and reserve files for use in InDesign.

Adobe CS6 plugin, Markzware Q2ID, can transfer QXD colors, text, fonts
and other content (in new or legacy files) to INDD for creative professionals.
Anni continues to say, “It’s not often you get everything you expect from a piece of software. Q2ID actually does what it says it’s going to do, and even better, does it seamlessly. You barely know it’s there. In the design world, precision is everything, and that what you get from this software is 99% accurate results in my experience. It was a great investment and paid for itself the first day. I would recommend it to those who are looking to transition from Quark to InDesign.”
