Preflighting involves checking job files to find potential issues before the files are output for printing or online usage. A thorough preflight solution will reduce graphic design workflow costs and ensure quality output, before the project deadline.

Checking your documents in advance of output helps you to catch problems as soon as possible, so corrections can be made in prepress, before the final production stage of your workflow. Markzware FlightCheck is a stand-alone application to preview, analyze, report on, and package jobs for output in print, publishing, and graphic arts workflows. The Ground Controls are a series of pre-defined rules that can be set to one of three states (Ignore, Warn, or Error). These states can be controlled by you and can check document items that are crucial, for your workflow. If you enable all of the Ground Controls and set each one to the “Error” state, FlightCheck will check your document for potential problems with every item listed and provide information about those problems. By enabling all checks, you are directing FlightCheck to find any output issues and other document problems.

For example, if your workflow plans to post PDF documents on the internet, FlightCheck can check them for you, to make sure that the documents are not too large. It will even locate missing images (including WebP and HEIC photo formats for iPhone) and fonts (including Adobe Type 1 fonts), as well as check for Unsupported PANTONE colors and ICC Profiles overrides.

Ground Controls To Direct A Preflight Session

FlightCheck will preflight a document based on your selected Ground Controls (also known as pre-flight profiles), to alert you to potential export or printing problems. The Ground Controls have a series of switches you can toggle on or off for various checkpoints. You can choose to have FlightCheck “Ignore” the item, give you a “Warning” about it, or alert you to an “Error” involving that item.

The Ground Control Settings offer you viewing options, so you can see them in “List” form or in “Detail”. The Ground Control areas allow you to make selections regarding:

You can move the Inventory sections up or down in the list. You can also adjust the column order and hide or show columns.

• Preflight Mode – FlightCheck’s helpful interface displays a list of the Preflight Rules that were flagged, with details about items that triggered the rule. FlightCheck even reports a FlightCheck Score for your document’s print-readiness. The higher the score, the more print-ready your document is, for final output.
